Fentiman and Richborne Association

The Fentiman and Richborne Residents’ Association exists to represent the views of local residents by working with other community groups and our local government.

Our aim is to make our area a beacon for green urban living in London and to build a community spirit where we live.

We have outlined some of our campaigns and activities on this website.

Please do get in touch if you have ideas about other activities that we can do as a community or other campaigns in which we can be involved.

Upcoming Events and Activities

COVID-19 has stopped many of our regular activities, but we are trying to keep connected and support people in networking so that we all feel physically but not socially distanced. We will advertise future events on this site and in our regular newsletters.

Please drop us a short email if you would like to receive our newsletters.

Who We Are

Anyone who lives in the area is a member of the Residents' Association. There is no membership fee.

The committee is made up of local residents who love this area and want to make it a great place to live. We are always on the lookout for anyone with a similar community spirit who wants to get involved.

Our Campaigns and Activities

Traffic

We are working with neighbouring residents associations to ensure that our streets become less dangerous, less polluted and less heavily used by traffic that should be using the main arterial roads. We have lobbied Lambeth consistently to tackle this ever-increasing problem and have received encouraging responses. Recent victories include:-

  • the downgrading of Fentiman Road from a B road to a local road
  • the commissioning of a traffic flow studied by Lambeth, and
  • the Oval Triangle Low Traffic Neighbourhood announced by Lambeth Council in 2019 and launched, under emergency Covid-19 legislation in June 2020.

We support the Save Oval Streets Campaign.

Safer Neighbourhoods

We work closely with the Oval Safer Neighbourhood police team who have a quarterly Ward Panel meeting with residents of Oval Ward. The police listen to the concerns of the community, and their priorities are set by local people. Those priorities are then reviewed at the next meeting, and new ones set if appropriate. Everyone is welcome to attend for a chance to meet the team members and help make a difference to the neighbourhood.

Notice of the meeting will be posted on this website.

You can follow the team on Twitter ( @MPSOval) and email them at SNTLX-Oval@MET.police.uk .

Gardening

We want to keep our streets green and beautiful. And there are lots of keen gardeners on our streets, some of whom are leading street gardening days.

In 2017, Richborne Terrace won a 'Blooming Lambeth' award in the 'Communities in Bloom' category!

We are keen for the beds around the trees on Fentiman and Richborne to get some more love. Some local residents have already begun an Adopt-A-Pit scheme on Richborne, and we would love to trial this on Fentiman as well.

Aircraft Noise

We are on or near the flight paths for both Heathrow and London City airports and therefore monitor proposals for new routes which might affect us.

Plane Hell Action has been campaigning to reduce the impact of Heathrow and London City Airports over South East London. The group has had some recent success in March 2019 with London City Airport agreeing to look again at its concentrated flight paths. It will consult on new proposals later this year. This will be a wide-ranging consultation conducted under the new rules laid down by the Civil Aviation Authority. This is a change that campaigners have worked on for a long time. It shows that campaigning can lead to consultations; and consultations, to change.

We will keep members updated with events but please also continue to check the Plane Hell Action website as well as HACAN - the group that is focused on Heathrow and in particular on its proposed third runway.
